Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is warning travelers that they may encounter nighttime delays at the airport's busiest entrance on Century Boulevard starting Jan. 5.
The anticipated delays come at the tail-end of the year-end holiday crush, which, from the airport's perspective, ended Friday.
Century Boulevard west of Airport Boulevard will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction on an alternating basis nightly between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, according to an LAX statement.
The delays aren't because of ongoing LAX construction projects, but passengers still need to allow extra time to make their flights.
LAX says the closures are because of a Southern California Gas Co. project that has been in the works. The company is installing a new underground gas line for a hotel in the area that crosses all of Century Boulevard.
Before you head to the airport, look for @LAAirportPD (L.A. Airport Police Department) on Twitter and use the hashtag #LAXtraffic to find updates on delays.
Last July the intersection of Century and Aviation boulevards a few blocks from the airport entrance was closed for more than two days to allow construction crews to demolish a bridge and make way for a Metro station.
