Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Sunday that the Clippers are worth more than $1 billion.
"Far north of $1 billion," Cuban said at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the billionaire and Indiana University graduate was the honorary starter for the Indianapolis 500.
As part of the NBA's sweeping sanctions against Clippers owner Donald Sterling over his controversial racial remarks, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is urging the league's other owners to push for the Clippers' sale.
"I wouldn't be shocked if the bidding starts at $1.5 billion," Cuban said in a brief interview before the race.
Asked how soon the owners might decide whether to force the sale, Cuban replied, "No idea." And when he was asked whether there would be numerous bidders for the team, he said, "I have no idea about that."
There are expected to be several suitors for the Clippers if the club becomes available. Sterling bought the team for $12.5 million in 1981.
