Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back with the FBI, and as "The X-Files: Season 10″ begins its second arc, a fan-favorite monster from the classic paranormal investigation TV show's second season returns: Yes, X-Philes, Flukeman is back.
The Joe Kelly-written "Season 10″ comic series' sixth issue, "Hosts: Part 1 of 2," draws its name from the Chris Carter-written 1994 episode "The Host," which followed FBI agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they encountered a dangerous, horrific-looking creature found in a New Jersey water treatment plant. (Who can forget the presumed-dead Flukeman opening his eyes at the end?)
Carter, creator of "The X-Files," is the executive producer of the IDW Publishing series, which Kelly ("Ben 10," "I Kill Giants") scripts with dialogue that feels like Duchovny and Anderson are delivering it.
Its first five issues saw Mulder and Scully living together after the events of the 2008 film "The X-Files: I Want to Believe." They are drawn into a mysterious plot involving her son William and shape-shifters that, in true "X-Files" fashion, wasn't wholly resolved and left fans wanting more.
This much is certain: The longtime partners have returned to the FBI.
That leads into No. 6, a natural jumping-on point for the curious. Hero Complex readers get a look at the issue's opening seven pages, seen in the gallery above and in larger versions in the links below.

The issue features a different visual team than the first arc. Elena Casagrande ("Suicide Risk") and Silvia Califano handle the art, with colors by Arianna Florean and color assist by Valentina Cuomo. Artist Michael Walsh ("Comeback") and colorist Jordie Bellaire ("Captain Marvel," the upcoming "Moon Knight"), who together worked on the first five issues, will return for No. 8.
Guest artists follow on No. 9 (Greg Scott, "Strange Attractors") and No. 10 (menton3, "Monocyte"), with an as yet unannounced artist coming on with No. 11, still with Bellaire on colors.
Flukeman fans will recall that the creature was played by Darin Morgan, who later appeared as Eddie Van Blundht and wrote several popular "X-Files" episodes, including "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose."
Both of those episodes were selected by fans to be screened at this year's Hero Complex Film Festival, which featured Carter, Morgan and his writer-producer brother Glen Morgan, marking the show's 20th anniversary with a between-episodes discussion.
