‘Walking Dead’: New trailer, webisodes tease zombie-filled season

"The Walking Dead" returns in less than two weeks, and AMC is ramping up viewer appetite with webisodes and a new trailer.

The fourth season of the hit zombie survival series is to debut Oct. 13, but fans who can't wait for the gory showdown to begin can check out this year's three-webisode series, titled "The Oath" and directed by "Walking Dead" executive producer and makeup wizard Greg Nicotero. Nicotero also directed the webisodes preceding Seasons 2 and 3.

This year's webisodes, set in other parts of "The Walking Dead" world, tell short stories about survivors Karina (Ashley Bell) and Paul (Wyatt Russell) as they desperately seek medical aid after a zombie attack. They eventually find a doctor (Ellen Greene), whose motives may be questionable.

Check out the first episode, which runs just more than eight minutes, below.

The webisodes follow the release of a trailer for the upcoming season, unveiled during the series finale of "Breaking Bad" on Sunday.

The 30-second trailer teases plenty of yelling and fighting as zombies appear to be breaking past the prison's defenses. Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and more cast staples return, and Larry Gilliard Jr. is introduced as new character Bob Stookey.

The fourth season also marks the debut of a new show runner, Scott Gimple, who takes over from Glen Mazzara. Michelle MacLaren, who directed multiple episodes of "Breaking Bad," and "Man of Steel" and "The Dark Knight" co-writer David Goyer are set to direct episodes in the new "Walking Dead" season. Check out the trailer below.

The AMC zombie survival show has become immensely popular. The third season finale drew the show's highest ratings to date, with an audience of 12.4 million, our sister blog ShowTracker reports. By comparison, "Breaking Bad's" series finale drew 10.3 million.
